How to Keep the Vibes Right & the Lanes Moving

Since we’re working with limited lanes, let’s keep things running smoothly so everyone gets a good swim in. Whether you’re here for a workout or just a chill swim, these etiquette tips will help make the most of our time in the water.

1. Choose the Right Lane

  • We will have two lane options:

    • Social Lane – A relaxed, conversational pace.

    • Workout Lane – A more structured swim with sets.

  • If you're unsure where you fit, start in the Social Lane and adjust as needed.

2. Circle/Split Swim

  • We must circle swim (counterclockwise) in all lanes - this keeps the flow going and maximizes space. If it is just you and one other person split swimming if perfect.

3. Merging into a Lane? Check First.

  • Before hopping in, wait at the wall and make eye contact with the swimmers.

  • No surprise entries - let the lane know you’re joining.

4. Passing Without Chaos

  • Tap the foot of the swimmer ahead if you need to pass.

  • If you get tapped, pause at the wall for them to go ahead.

  • No mid-lane passing - keep it smooth.

5. Don’t Hog the Wall

  • If you’re taking a break, move to the corner of the lane so others can still turn.

  • Keep convos off to the side - chilling is encouraged, blocking the wall is not.

6. Respect Everyone’s Swim

  • Be aware of the pace in your lane. If you’re constantly passing or getting passed, consider switching lanes.

  • Give people space - accidental kicks happen, but let’s try to avoid them.

7. Keep Equipment Minimal

  • If you bring fins, paddles, or a kickboard, be mindful of lane space.

8. Time Limits & Rotations

  • If the lane gets too crowded, we’ll rotate swimmers in and out to keep things fair.

  • Be mindful of time - everyone deserves a good swim.

9. Clean Up & Respect the Space

  • Pick up your gear, trash, and towels - leave the pool better than you found it.

  • Be respectful to the pool staff - we want to keep a good relationship here.

10. Have Fun & Build Community

  • The goal of Social Swim Club is to create a welcoming, fun, and supportive swim environment.

    • Say hi, encourage each other, and let’s make the most of our swims together.

    11. dont be a jerk

  • Social Swim Club is for everyone, and we mean that. Racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, or any kind of discrimination will result in an instant ban - no warnings, no second chances.

  • This is a space where everyone should feel safe, welcomed, and respected. If you can’t handle that, this isn’t the club for you.

  • We don’t mess around with jerks. Be cool, or be gone.
